The Greek cognomen Tyrannus suggests a servile descent.
In 154 CE, at the beginning of the 33rd lustrum, he was decurio of the 37th decuria of the collegium fabrum of Rome. in 162 CE he was honoured by the city of Capena as honoratus of the guild. This means that he either became magister quinquennalis during the 33rd lustrum (154-158 CE) in lieu of another magister quinquennalis (who had died in office or was 'excused' or otherwise removed). Or that he started as a regular magister quinqennalis of the 34st lustrum in 159 CE but ended his term early for some unknown reason, and thus became honoratus
His connection to Capena is uknown. He may have originally come from there, but the inscription merely refers to this merita towards the city. The monument was financed by a money collection held among the decuriones of the city, the augustales, the vicani, and his own freedmen. The latter suggests that Tyrannus either resided in Capena or had business activities there.
